Kia Carens EV 2025: India’s First Mass-Market Electric 7-Seater MPV

Kia Carens EV 2025: Kia is ready to shake up the Indian electric vehicle market with the launch of the Kia Carens EV, also referred to as the Kia Carens Clavis EV. Set to be officially revealed on 15th July 2025, this will be India’s first mass-market electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

It is designed to offer the comfort and practicality Indian families expect, but with a fully electric powertrain. With up to 490 kilometers of certified range and multiple battery options, the Carens EV aims to combine affordability, sustainability, and convenience.

Electric Power with Family Practicality

Kia’s entry into the electric MPV segment is based on real market need. So far, most electric cars available in India have been 5-seaters or high-end luxury models. The Carens EV changes this by giving Indian buyers a proper 6- or 7-seater EV that suits both city commutes and long highway journeys.

Built on a modified version of the current Carens platform, the EV version borrows heavily from the Hyundai Creta EV in terms of its powertrain. Two battery packs are expected to be offered:

  • 42 kWh battery with up to 390 kilometers of ARAI-certified range
  • 51.4 kWh battery with up to 490 kilometers of certified range

The electric motor is expected to deliver between 133 bhp and 169 bhp, depending on the battery configuration. Both versions will likely come with front-wheel drive, keeping driving dynamics simple and efficient.

Charging and Features

The Kia Carens EV will support both regular and fast charging. With DC fast-charging capability, users will be able to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in under an hour. The car may also offer V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) technology, allowing it to power external devices or even charge another EV, making it a convenient option for emergencies or outdoor use.

Exterior Design: Familiar with a Futuristic Twist

Although it retains the MPV shape of the standard Carens, the electric version introduces design elements unique to EVs:

  • Sealed front grille with a centrally mounted charging port
  • Full-width LED daytime running lights
  • Reworked front and rear bumpers
  • New EV-specific alloy wheels

These changes improve both the aerodynamics and the visual appeal of the vehicle. The design is expected to be minimal yet modern, helping distinguish it from the petrol and diesel versions already on the road.

Spacious and Smart Interior

The cabin is where the Carens EV will appeal strongly to Indian buyers. It continues to offer flexible seating for six or seven passengers, with smart packaging to ensure the battery doesn’t eat into usable space.

Interior features expected in the Carens EV include:

  • Twin 12.3-inch displays – one for the infotainment system and one for the digital instrument cluster
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Premium Bose sound system
  • Air purifier and ambient lighting
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Connected car features with over-the-air (OTA) updates

The dashboard layout and upholstery are also likely to be revised slightly to match the EV theme and tech-forward image.

Advanced Safety with ADAS

Kia is expected to bring the same level of safety features to the EV version as the updated ICE model. This means the Carens EV could offer:

  • Six airbags standard
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Hill Assist, Traction Control, and All-Wheel Disc Brakes
  • ADAS Level 2 features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

These safety additions make the Carens EV a strong option for family buyers looking for both safety and space.

Expected Price and Launch

The official launch of the Kia Carens EV is confirmed for 15 July 2025. While the exact prices will be announced on launch day, various sources estimate it to fall between ₹18 lakh to ₹26 lakh, depending on the variant and battery pack.

At this price, the Carens EV directly competes with the BYD e6, MG ZS EV, and upcoming Maruti eVX, but it has the clear advantage of being the only dedicated 7-seater in the segment.
